An Internship - Syafiq
Ola everyone, my name is Syafiq. I am a new intern at Faire Leather Co. and will be working closely with Ryan with regards to content and branding in the course of my internship.
I first met Ryan after he responded to my online application. I honestly had no idea what to expect as I knew I had a limited knowledge on leather products. I could barely tell the difference between faux leather and genuine leather myself. Regardless, I was assured in my writing ability and figured that there was no better way to learn and grow than to delve right into something I was foreign to, so I gritted my teeth, hoped for the best and gave it a shot.
After speaking with Ryan about what he expected of me over a cup of tea in Lena’s, I quickly understood that this was an enterprise led by a pair of very driven young men who I could relate to, seeing how our ages were not that far apart. It was clear to me from the get go that my voice and opinion matters in this team, and that every opportunity to contribute is welcome. For that reason, I was enticed.
Upon reading up on the brand on their blog and researching on its history, I could feel the passion and the hard work that goes into their products. These were a pair of men who wanted an ideal bag that could fit whatever they wanted and went around to actually designing it themselves. Their goal into wanting to expand internationally also showed me that they had a strong vision and were in it for the long run.
Meeting the rest of the team as well as the folks who worked for Tocco Toscano was also joyful to me. I appreciated the fact that they were nothing but nice to me on my first day and was happy to answer any questions that I had. What initially felt like uncertainty is now slowly building towards optimism. I look forward to contributing more at Faire and bonding with the team.
