Working at Faire: Cheryl
“I don’t know what to talk about.” – this was literally my reply to Ryan when he told me to write a blog post here.
Not because there is nothing worth mentioning. Far from that. Faire Leather Co. came into the picture fast and furious. Since the brand has launched, in fact, months prior to that when we were preparing for the launch - everyday has been a huge hustle. So, when I was asked to write a post about my work here, I realised I needed to take a step back.
Needless to mention, the recent fulfilment for the March backers was insane. Some of you might have noticed the sender’s name on your Kickstarter package airway bill. Bingo, that’s me.
I joined Tocco Toscano more than a year ago, doing what I am doing for Faire – digital marketing, content creation and managing of the online store operations and the website itself. In other words, I face the computer on most days, hide in the photography studio on some days and run around the office some time. Imagine a lady with a loose ponytail, carrying a dslr, pacing about (except with a clear goal in mind) to strike things off her to-do-list. Forgot to mention - while crunching some biscuits.
Ever since Faire came into the picture, I handle that for both brands. It is crazy. Just not as crazy as you might think. I have colleagues who assist me in some of the things I do and even Joseph does a part of the work. Now that Faire has a few more pairs of hands, I have a team to work together with as well.
The birth of Faire has put my ability to handle intense workloads to test and I think it is safe to say that I handled it well. Faire has also given me opportunities to learn plentiful of things which I hadn’t had the chance to such as what goes on behind a Kickstarter campaign. I knew about Kickstarter but was never interested enough to find out more. As always, I am given the stage to express my ideas and actualise them, be it for Faire or Tocco Toscano.
I believe that the content you read on Faire Leather Co. should be as real as it could get so let’s get real, it’s not all confetti and smiley face emojis. Things could turn pretty stressful here especially when one is dealing with heavy workloads and intense deadlines. For instance, I wouldn’t be surprised if I find myself weeping in a corner just a month ago when we were sorting out the March fulfilment. I oversaw the entire thing on Singapore’s end – from creating the packing list to witnessing the parcels get into the courier’s truck). We also set exacting standards for the work we do – at the very least, I set high standards for all the work I produce and the work that Faire produces. That also equates to greater stress levels.
Me looking unpresentable while checking on the Kickstarter orders.
Having said that, I can’t omit the fact that I made a few blunders during the challenging fulfilment period which inconvenienced my team and even a few of you. One of you received the wrong item – my bad! ☹
I can’t get more reflective than this without getting too personal. Having worked here for almost two years and considering how things have changed for me on both professional and personal levels, I am simply grateful to be here.
Speaking about fulfilment, I know you guys can’t wait to have your bags soon! Everyone - including the factory craftsmen - is trying our best to expedite the May fulfilment. Thank you so much for being patient with us all this while.
It has been nice chatting with some of you over emails as well. There is only one Cheryl at Faire so… I was very heartened to hear how you guys are enjoying your bags. Moments like this make you feel that the efforts have paid off.
That’s all for now, folks. I hope this article has given you a more personal insight into the dynamics of Faire Leather Co. as a company. Although my primary job scope isn’t to create visual content, my passion for that remains – to be exact - photography. I do hope that you will be able to see more of my creative works soon.
As the May fulfilment will begin in no time... gonna start prepping for it (mentally). Till next time.
Feeling thankful,
Cheryl
